Guardian Home Opportunities
Ethical, responsible breeding is at the heart of our program, but we are also very passionate about raising dogs right. "Ethical" and "responsible" are broad terms that are a general indication that the breeding dogs are well cared for. It does not always mean that the dogs are raised in-home, fully socialized and cared for as family dogs. Our breeding dogs however, are primarily family dogs who occasionally holiday with us for the breeding season. This is made possible by our Guardianship program!

How does the Guardianship program work?
Our Guardian families get our Picks of the Litter (usually the first 1-2 puppies picked from the litter) and are not charged for the puppies. In return, they would be contractually obligated to keep the dog intact until they’re retired from our breeding program. After they grow older, the dogs will briefly board with us during the breeding season and will be returned back after. Once retired, the dogs will remain with their guardian homes.

When will the dogs be bred?
We can choose to breed the dog at any time. However, we will typically wait at least a year until we breed a male and 2+ heat cycles until we breed a female (we typically prefer 2 yrs and above).

What are the requirements for a Guardian Home?
The dog would need to visit us a few times during the breeding season regardless of whether they are males or females. Females would return home to you after breeding and would need to visit us a few more times after that for physicals and scans but would still return home with you. We reserve the right to board both the male and female dogs any time with prior notice but would typically just board the females for the whelping and the 8 week weaning period following that. We should also be able to visit your house any time to see the dog with prior notice. In order to make these visits possible, we require that our Guardians live within a 30 minute distance from the San Diego city area. Guardian homes are required to have a fenced-off backyard area and should not have any other intact dogs living in the same home. It’s also possible that we may end up choosing not to breed, that will not affect your Guardianship, you will still keep the pup.
